Ten Reasons to Visit Fort Worth, Texas
1. Rodeos, Cowboys, and Mounted Police.
A reminder of Texas’ Western Heritage, rodeos, cowboys, and mounted police remain a regular sight in Fort Worth. Rodeos can be seen every Friday and Saturday in the Stockyards at the Cowtown Coliseum as well as during the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo held at the Will Rogers Coliseum.
Fort Worth’s downtown is one of the cleanest and safest downtowns in the nation. It is protected by The Downtown Mounted Patrol which you will see both on bikes as well as horses throughout the city.
2. The Stockyards:
Rooted deep in Texas history, the Fort Worth Stockyards were the hub of the cattle trade. The stockyards began as a resting place for cattle drivers heading across The Chisholm Trail. “Between 1866 and 1890 more than four million head of cattle were trailed through Fort Worth, which was soon known as “Cowtown.” Stockyards History. 3. The Cultural District

Six museums including the The Amon Carter Museum, Cattle Raisers Museum, The National Cowgirl Museum, The Fort Worth Science and Nature Center, The Modern Art Museum, and the Kimbell Art Museum all have their home in Fort Worth’s cultural district. Casa Manana and the Will Rogers Coliseum can be found there as well, along with many shops and restaurants.
4. 7th Street
Situated in the heart of the Cultural District, 7th Street offers boutique shopping, a mixture of eclectic, trendy, and casual and fine dining restaurants, as well as a multitude bars and pubs. 5. Sundance Square
Sundance square is a great place for people watching, free outdoor concerts, festivals, street performers, restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Many events take place in the square such as the Main Street Arts Festival, and during the spring and summer, free Yoga and Zumba classes take place in the Plaza. Christmas time brings lots of family activities including the lighting of the Christmas tree and the Christmas Parade of Lights.
6. The Fort Worth Zoo
The Fort Worth Zoo is packed full of thousands of interesting animals, arranged by habitat and region and is dedicated to conservation and education. 7. The Trinity Trails
The Trinity Trails are a network of over 40 miles of trails alongside or near the Trinity River that wind in and around the cultural district, downtown, the Stockyards, 7th Street, and for much of the trails, follow the Trinity River. Bicyclists and joggers alike can marvel at the beautiful scenic views of the downtown skyline, the Trinity River, and explore the miles and miles of Fort Worth’s culture and landscape.
8. Coyote Drive

Situated within Panther Island Pavilion with great views of downtown, the Coyote Drive-In is a throwback to days of old. A great place for the whole family, Coyote Drive-In has something for everyone. Four choices of double features are shown nightly on four separate screens. Coyote Canteen restaurant serves both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. There is a children’s play area, pets are welcome, and there is even a place to hitch your horses!
9. Panther Island Pavilion

Located on the Trinity River, the Panther Island Pavilion hosts outdoor concerts on the waterfront, festivals, and adventure runs. Visitors can grab a tube and a beer, head to the water, and listen to the band during Panther Island Pavilion’s free Rockin’ the River concerts. Kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards can be rented, and there is even a public beach site that’s open daily.
10. The Botanic Gardens
The Fort Worth Botanic Gardens
Home to twenty two specialized gardens, the Fort Worth Botanic Gardens is Texas’ oldest Botanic Garden. Visitors to the Gardens can participate in several of the free tours offered or simply delight in all the beauty the gardens have to offer. Many botanic themed festivals take place here as well as the Summer Music Festival’s Concert series, Concert in the Garden, presented by the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.
